In the beginning of 2006 MFC ‘adopted’ Pheasant Folly Primary School in Kliprivier as part of its corporate social responsiblity programme. Over the past two years, the Motor Finance Corporation has built eight classrooms, erected a borehole, introduced a feeding scheme, established a food garden and put up a fence around the school.
But it is not simply about giving money and walking away. MFC’s employees want to get involved, and so in October last year a fun day was organised at the school where they participated in various activities, including planting trees, painting infrastructure, demarcating a netball field and providing food and entertainment for the children.
In fact, the collaboration between MFC and Pheasant Folly has been so successful that MFC has recently also begun assisting Thabo Tona, a school across the road from Pheasant Folly. Feasibility studies are underway to build principal’s offices at both schools, a shared library and computer room.
